'People had written me off' - Vilakazi hits back at critics

Attacking midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi has explained how his first goal for Sekhukhune United was crucial in proving his doubters wrong.

Following a brief spell with TS Galaxy that ended under controversial terms, Vilakazi put pen to paper with Brandon Truter's Sekhukhune United.

The 33-year-old didn't take long to settle in, by featuring in all four of Babina Noko's matches since his arrival and got onto the score-sheet against Maritzburg United.

"That [goal] was within the drive I have for myself and of course, people had written me off, I won't say who but people had written me off," Vilakazi said.

"That for me said I'm going to the gym and I'll show those people that you know what, as much as you think I'm wasted and as much as youth think I'm out, we'll see.

"So for me, It had to be that drive from within, that I'll show you [what I can do]."

Vilakazi will turn his attention next to a DStv Premiership clash against Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

Both teams go into the fixture on the back of wins, with Chiefs registering four victories from their last five league matches while Sekhukhune picked up two.

Babina Noko will, however, draw confidence from their last duel against Amakhosi, in which they walked away with a 1-0 victory.
