Safpu: 'Patel is owed lot of money'

South Africa Football Players Union (Safpu) have issued the latest regarding Muhammad Zaid Patel's case with Marumo Gallants FC.

Patel accuses the DStv Premiership club of failing to keep their end of the bargain.

In 2021 the attacker joined the Limpopo club from Spanish third-division side Loja CD.

"They are owing him the signing-on fees, as well they did not pay his accommodation," Safpu deputy secretary general Calvin Motloung tells KickOff.

"So based on that we terminated the contract, as you know that once you owe a player for two months he is entitled to terminate and claim the balance and claim remaining balance of the contract. Which is what we did.

"So the matter sat before the DRC and the PSL today [Thursday] but they did not attend to it, what they said is both parties must prepare pre-trial minutes and appear on the 29th of November.

"Patel wants the club to pay what they owe him. They owe him a lot of money. His contract was remaining with two seasons.

"We called them first; we sent the letter of demand bhadalani madoda niyakolota. They avoided that.

"We then sent another letter informing them we are terminating because they owe us for two months and we are claiming the remaining balance.

"They are opposing that matter. They are saying they don't owe him anything. So, we took the matter to the DRC."

Gallants' spokesperson Rufus Matsena says at this stage the club cannot comment on the matter.

"As you can see Safpu is involved which means the matter is subjudicare, we cannot comment on it."
