Brighton Mhlongo to start for Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby

The former Garankuwa United player has taken the goalkeeping position at Pirates since the passing away of Senzo Meyiwa last year and has also managed to keep new signing Siyabonga Mpontshane on the bench since his arrival from Platinum Stars in the January transfer window.

Tinkler has dropped a hint that Mhlongo will keep his position when the Buccaneers take on Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

"Brighton has done exceptionally well for us. I don't see why we have to make changes at this stage," said Tinkler at a press conference at Soccer City today.

"Remember, he is a young goalkeeper that has taken Senzo's place and those are difficult shoes to fill. He is a young keeper and needs to be given that opportunity."

Mhlongo has conceded two goals for Pirates in their last two games including the 1-1 draw with Free State Stars in Bethlehem last night.

"I have been happy with his performances. I don't think he was responsible for the goal conceded last night. It was a good strike from the player," Tinkler added.

"We will continue to have faith in him. Mpontshane is also supporting him one hundred percent and that's what you want when you have healthy competition in the goalkeeping department."
