The match finished goalless, with precious few chances created on either side, but Tinkler says there was method behind his madness.
“The thinking behind playing the one striker was because of the opposition. We couldn’t afford to be crowded in the middle. I think it worked,” he said after the game.
Lehlohonolo Majoro got the nod ahead of Kermit Erasmus, despite the latter scoring a great goal in midweek against Free State Stars.
“We started with ‘Major’ because he was fresher [because of a three-game suspension] after the amount of games we have played in a short space of time."
Tinkler also had great credit for his back-four, who had come in for some criticism in recent weeks, but who managed to repel everything Chiefs threw at them.
“We've been criticised for ages about our defence, but we were fantastic today,” the coach added.
“This is the best I have seen Rooi [Mahamutsa] play this season, and we also saw the Happy [Jele] of two years back. He was phenomenal in the way he linked up. Siya [Sangweni] as well was superb.”
