Irvin Khoza declares support for Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler

Pirates have been poor on the domestic front with their eleventh-place position on the league standings the evidence of how appalling they have been to date.

However, despite the struggles by his club during the current campaign Khoza has stressed the need to maintain a sober head in dealing with the situation and understanding how much of an effect playing in Africa has had on the team.

“For us we had a meeting with him [Tinkler] and we reassured him the support,” declares Khoza ahead of the Soweto Derby this Saturday which will definitely raise voices of discontent from Pirates fans if they lose.

“Not only him [Tinkler] but the whole technical team because this is not only about the coach himself but everybody who is involved in the team because when there is an assessment to be made we do that assessment for everybody.

“But for now we are saying let us give him the support and make sure that we soldier on because we know that we provide excitement in the country and therefore people are expecting us to do better. So we hope that things will turn.”

Khoza adds: “It is also very important to remain rational to protect and give the support to the coach. We understand that the supporters just want a win, they don’t analyse the game like we analyse it now.

“The business of football generates emotions. We are the only sport with an emotional content, a sport where when somebody loses they cry. Other sports when they lose they go and do braaivleis,” explains the Pirates commander-in-chief.
