The Bafana Bafana stopper has been out of action since November due to a knee injury, but has subsequently made a full recovery.
Amakhosi coach Steve Komphela left Khune out of Sunday’s 2-1 loss against Platinum Stars in Cape Town, but the 28-year-old is a player for the big occasion and could be set for a recall.
“A Derby is a big occasion and it is every player’s dream to play. If I do feature in the Derby it would be my 21st,” Khune tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“We want to play to win and to do well and of course help the club to achieve its goals. To me personally it is a very big stage and like I said, it’s every players dream to be a part of it.
“I was very fortunate to have played in quite a few in the past but believe me … it doesn’t matter how many derbies you’ve played in, they are all special and it means a lot when you walk onto the pitch.”
Khune has also heaped praised on the other keepers at the club –Reyaad Pieterse and Brilliant Khuzwayo.
“I have massive respect for these guys because they are very hard working and always willing to learn each and every day,” he adds.
“I mean they have been doing very well for the team and they are knocking [on the door] for Bafana. They’ve got my respect and my full support and keep on working hard.”
