Ekstein has quickly become a fan-favourite for the Glamour Boys, and was given the nod to start again ahead of Reneilwe Letsholonyane in the Soweto Derby victory over Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals on Saturday.
Former Chiefs midfielder Abel 'Chacklas' Shongwe recently tipped Ekstein for greatness, with much expected of the 24-year-old after his late breakthrough in professional football.
Komphela, however, says the MultiChoice Diski Challenge product must be given time to develop.
"He is playing now at the highest level," says Komphela.
"Players around him as much make him look better. It does have the sort of effect in terms of mental capacity when he says, 'I am now arrogant because I am in charge.' Or his level of arrogance is suppressed by those around because is playing alongside big players who also have to help him and carry him with a hand, which our players are doing now."
Komphela adds: "With regards to the fans, we appreciate the fact they love players who can play - it's part of our DNA.
"He also reminds you of Ace Khuse, his style of running, the way he touches the ball, very intelligent, very nippy. But we can only give him enough time to grow to his full potential. We love to support him."
