The Absa Premiership log leaders hosted the 155th ever Soweto Derby against the Buccaneers at the FNB Stadium, with the match ending 0-0 at the end of an exciting 90 minutes.
The point earned helped Stuart Baxter’s men extend their lead at the top of the log to 11 points, after Bidvest Wits faltered against Bloemfontein Celtic on Friday evening, and Mamelodi Sundowns beat Free State Stars later on Saturday evening, though, Pisto Mosimane’s side still have a game in hand.
Letsholonyane and Tshabalala took to the mic after the match and expressed their satisfaction at how their game plan proved a success.
“In the first half we allowed them to play in the position that we wanted them to play,” said ‘Yeye’.
“Second half it started opening up, and we started playing better as a team, and we worked hard – a point is better than nothing for us.”
‘Shabba’ backed up his colleague conceding, though, that Pirates had the better of the first half in terms of ball possession.
“We knew what to expect – it was going to be a tough one – they had a lot of possession in the first half,” he said.
“But we kept our shape and structure and we knew that we would get our chances, and I think we did create a few good chances.
“Sad we did not bury them, but we are happy with a point,” concluded the winger.
