Kaizer Chiefs' George Maluleka urges extra effort in Soweto Derby

Maluleka is expected to make a return in tomorrow’s mammoth clash from a month-long lay-off since he last captained Amakhosi to a 2-0 Absa Premiership victory over Bidvest Wits four weeks ago.

The 30-year-old will feature in his ninth competitive Derby, should he get selected, since his arrival from SuperSport United five years ago, and says he is more than ready to give his all on the day.

‘Mido’ also alluded to the important role of the referee and his assistants on the day, who he believes could play a crucial role in the outcome at the end of the 90 minutes.

“I’m always ready [for a Soweto Derby]. You need to always bring you’re A-game in matches of this calibre, make fewer mistakes and just give it your all,” said Maluleka.

“100 per-cent is not good enough in such matches, and I think the rest is up to the [match] officials really, because as players we always go into these matches wanting to give it our all – obviously, not wanting to disappoint our supporters, our family members and so forth.

“It’s going to be a difficult one, but I think we’re ready for it, definitely.”
