Katsande was handed the armband after regular captain Tshabalala was benched following a 3-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby on the weekend.
"It feels special to captain Kaizer Chiefs, the biggest brand in African soccer," Katsande told his club's website.
"I got full support as well from ‘Shabba’, who is the real captain but didn’t feature in Tuesday’s match."
The Zimbabwean enforcer said the victory over Abafana Bes'thende has raise morale for the Telkom Knockout semi-final clash with Pirates on Saturday.
"That was a big confidence booster. We played well and we could even have converted more chances."
He added of the rematch with Bucs: "It’s all about going to the next round and that’s the Final."
