Milutin Sredojevic rejects concerns over Orlando Pirates slipping in Absa Premiership title race

Pirates stumbled in their opportunity to gain ground on log leaders Bidvest Wits as they were held to a 1-1 draw – their ninth of the season – against arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in Saturday’s Soweto Derby.

The Buccaneers could have moved to within two points had they come out victorious, while boasting a game in hand over The Clever Boys, and instead find themselves four points adrift.

Fellow title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, who enjoyed a bye this weekend due to their CAF Champions League commitments, remain in second with three games still to catch up on.

Despite their dropping of points, Sredojevic rejected any sense of concern by their escalating number of draws this season and believes the race is still far from decided as Wits are also still engaged in Nedbank Cup duty.

“I will say that I’m not worried,” responded Micho. “And the reason being, having in mind that even Bidvest Wits are still in the [Nedbank] Cup.

“Mamelodi Sundowns – they are still in it [the title race], Kaizer Chiefs are coming with their performances, [as are] Cape Town City, which means there is still much to play for.

“There are 11 matches – 11 cup finals, and we shall approach it that way. We really tried our best today, we got what we got, and we move on. We have no time to think about what’s behind us.”
