Ertugral managed Pirates’ eternal rivals Kaizer Chiefs over two different spells – the first one from 1999 to 2002 and the second one from 2007 to 2009.
Of those three victories over Pirates, two of them came in the League and one in the 2001 BP Top 8 semi-final. His Chiefs sides scored 10 goals in those 11 Derbies while conceding 13.
His biggest loss was a 3-0 loss in the 2000/01 season, when a Lesley Manyathela inspired Pirates ran riot. That makes up one of his four defeats in the Derby, with another four ending in stalemates.
His last win in the Derby came in the first season of his second spell with Amakhosi in 2008, when beating Pirates 2-1. His last derby in charge ended in defeat as Pirates won 2-1, completing the League double over Chiefs.
Ertugral will experience this first Soweto Derby as Pirates coach in the Carling Black Label Champions Cup scheduled for 30 July at FNB Stadium.
