Katane admits that the idea of coaching is nerve-wracking, but believes his team’s good run in the CAF Confederation Cup can help shake off his jitters in the dugout and lead his side to victory to claim the bragging rights.
“I have seen my line-up and we’ve been winning in Africa, and I want to keep the same momentum going on Saturday. It would be very important for me to talk to the players about how our fans feel,” he tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“I’m looking forward to a 2-0 win. I saw their defence and it doesn’t look good at all, while I’m strong with Lehlohonolo Majoro and Kermit Erasmus upfront. I’m looking at 2-0 before halftime. I’m very, very happy with my partnership upfront and the midfield for the supply. I think we gonna see goals,” Katane predicts.
Chiefs’ defence is made up of Kgotso Moleko, Siboniso Gaxa, Siyanda Xulu and Tsepo Masilela, while Amakhosi’s trusted defensive midfielder Willard Katsande didn’t make the team.
Furthermore, goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo, who was due to start in goals, will miss the clash after breaking two fingers at training on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Katane has commended the organisers for giving the fans the opportunity to be in the dugout.
He adds: “It is a great initiative and I think Carling has really heard the voice of the fans and as for me, it hasn’t sunk in. I think it will sink in that I will be coaching our players when I meet them today.”
