Pirates’ medical team last reported a week ago that Sangweni needed a scan to assess a troublesome knee, and it has now been confirmed that he has a torn meniscus and ligaments.
The club’s official Twitter account states that Sangweni “has limited movement” and his return is “surgeon dependent”, implying that he will remain sidelined for a lengthy period.
Jele, who had been declared fit following a groin strain ahead of last Saturday’s defeat to Jomo Cosmos, did not make the matchday squad and has now suffered a different injury, this time a right hip flexor strain.
Pirates say Jele will be out for a further two weeks and neither he nor Sangweni will be available for Saturday's Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs.
Oupa Manyisa’s estimated comeback date from a fractured fibula has been moved forward from April to March.
Lehlogonolo Masalesa has recovered from a knee problem and is expected to return to training this week.
