Soweto Derby danger for Chiefs players

Nasreddine Nabi will have considerations to make to avoid the risk of having Kaizer Chiefs weakened by suspensions ahead of the forthcoming Soweto derbies.

Chiefs will play Orlando Pirates on consecutive weekends, starting with the league match on May 3 at FNB Stadium, before the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium a week later.

Before those two huge games that could turn Nabi’s first season into a celebration, there are two league encounters against away at Chippa United (April 19) and at home to Marumo Gallants (April 26).

The issue at hand for Amakhosi is on cautions with Wandile Duba, Inacio Miguel, Gaston Sirino, Mduduzi Shabalala, Pule Mmodi, and Tashreeq Morris all on three yellow cards.

A fourth yellow will lead to each serving another one-match ban, including Miguel and Sirino, who have already been sent off this season.

Miguel has already served a one-match suspension for yellow cards and also had to sit out another two games due to a sending off in the Telkom Knockout against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Luckily, his second set of four yellow cards will only come with a one-match suspension as per the PSL rules.

The Angolan-Portuguese will miss three matches if he gets his third set of four yellows, just like he will miss three games if he is sent off for the second time this term.

Sirino will also miss three matches if he is sent off again this season.

Chiefs also have several players, including Glody Makabi Lilepo, Bruce Bvuma, and Bradley Cross, on two yellow cards, putting them within another two cautions of being suspended.
