Tshepo Gumede and Mwape Musonda on Soweto Derby

The defender, who joined from Platinum Stars during the January transfer window, will hope to get on the field when the Buccaneers face off against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium this afternoon.

“It’s difficult to explain the emotions I have been going through as the match draws nearer,” he tells the club’s official website.

“I grew up in Dobsonville Soweto, so I grew up going to the stadium and watching the former greats weave their magic in these encounters.

“Now to find myself a Pirates player in the Soweto Derby is absolutely priceless.”

Another player who could make his debut is Zambian striker Mwape Musonda.

“It means a lot for me to be part of this historic event,” he tells the club’s site. "It is one of the biggest derbies in Africa. I have always watched it from TV and I am just honoured to be part of the team.

“Whoever gets the opportunity to play I am sure will give their 100% and if I get a chance to play I just want to do my best to help the team win.”
