A disappointed Steve Barker felt his Stellenbosch FC side were unlucky not to secure points from their 2-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership clash at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday.
Barker insisted that after an initial pulsating opening 10-minute period his Stellenbosch side were clearly in the ascendency and created the majority of the goalscoring chances.
"I felt they [Chiefs] didn't really know what they wanted to do in the build-up," Barker said post-match.
The 55-tear-old elaborated on his initial point that his side deserved more from the encounter after a positive opening period.
"Obviously they are trying to create from the back and suck you in and play out where the pitch opens up for them.
"They did that on occasions once or twice just to where a bit of luck was involved where a clearing header falls to one of them and they break.
"With the goal that they scored, you then have to say that it was due to them being brave enough to try to play out and the pass broke the lines and it led to the goal.
"So, they did achieve an objective there.
"There were times where it seemed like we were going to get something from our [high] press with a possible mistake from them or an error.
"We were a bit unlucky not to, but we wanted to apply pressure on them high up the pitch and not allow them to play because if they do play it long they then don't have the height up front.
"But when you get down to 10 men then the pressing becomes a bit more difficult and you do leave gaps which happened in the second half."
Barker though, praised his side's efforts who perhaps pose threats that few other top-flight teams do with their fast-paced dynamic style of play.
"I do believe we'll be competitive where we've just got to regroup from days like this," Barker added.
