Former Chiefs star impresses at Stellies

Stellenbosch FC looks set to sign former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Darrel Matsheke after impressing during an assessment with the Cape Winelands side.

Matsheke is currently undergoing an assessment with the aim of securing a permanent move after the departure of Sibongiseni Mthethwa to Kaizer Chiefs.

The 24-year-old midfielder is being touted as a shrewd replacement for Mthethwa in Steve Barker's squad.

"We going to look at him. We are going to assess where he has, it's been difficult he joined us when we were in Gauteng," said Barker.

"He will travel back with the squad to Cape Town. We will give him the opportunity. With what I have seen in the last two training sessions I was quite impressed.

"But yeah, we will give him a good assessment and will take it from there."

Stellenbosch have lost a number of key players at the beginning of this campaign with the departures of Mthethwa, Olwethu Makhanya and Junior Mendieta.
