Stellies hit form ahead of Chiefs clash

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker is hoping to maintain his side's momentum when they meet Kaizer Chiefs in Cape Town this weekend.

Stellies extended their unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership to three matches on Tuesday after recording a comprehensive 3-0 win over Maritzburg United at the Danie Craven Stadium, courtesy of an own goal from Thabo Moloisane and strikes from Antonio van Wyk and Sinethemba Mngomezulu.

The Cape Winelands-based side have now taken seven points out of a possible nine from their last three matches, which includes a win over Swallows and draw against Sekhukhune United before the international break, and are hoping to carry that form into Sunday's meeting against Kaizer Chiefs.

"I think from our last two games, we got four out of six away from home. We beat Swallows and drew against Sekhukhune, who showed that they are not an easy team to play with their result (against Orlando Pirates)," Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker told the media after the match.

"So, to get  seven out of nine from our last three, it's these mini runs of being unbeaten, getting two wins in three that does set us up nicely for the weekend. It's a massive game for both Chiefs and ourselves. They obviously still have a game [on Wednesday] so we can put our feet up and watch them, and prepare for what I think is going to be a big occasion again."

The match is scheduled to take place at the Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town as opposed to Stellenbosch's home venue following crowd trouble at the Danie Craven Stadium last month, but the change of venue has not dampened Barker's spirits ahead of the weekend's tie.

"We've played at Cape Town Stadium enough times for it to be our second home," he added. "It's a big stadium, a nice stadium, and hopefully the crowd will come out in their numbers and we can put on a show."
