Barker turns to Derby to end nine-game winless run

Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker believes the Western Cape Derby against Cape Town City is the best opportunity to end a nine-game winless run for Stellies.

Stellies are on a nine-match winless run that's seen the side fall down to position 15 on the DStv Premiership log table and Barker believes the upcoming clash against Cape Town City is the best opportunity to bounce back.

"There's no better game than at home, in a Derby at Danie Craven [Stadium] on a Friday evening for us to turn things around and we've traditionally done well against Cape Town City," the 55 year old coach said.

"I'm expecting a big massive game on Friday and trusting that we can change things around and get a win because I think that's what we need right now.

"Besides today, It's not like we can't win watches, we can win, we put ourselves in positions where we can win matches. It's just maybe the confidence and the belief just disappears the longer you don't get a win. So. It's a massive game for us.

A win for Stellies would take them as high at 12 but standing in their path is seventh-placed Cape Town City, who are undefeated in their last three matches.

The clash will kick off at 19:30 at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.
