Bafana striker eyeing lucrative overseas move

Bafana Bafana striker Zakhele Lepasa says he has not ruled out completing an overseas move and has drawn inspiration from players such as Lyle Foster making big transfers abroad.

The 25-year-old is spending the rest of the season with SuperSport United on loan from Orlando Pirates in a bid to find regular game time. His compatriot and former Pirates teammate Lyle Foster completed a record-breaking move to EFL Championship outfit Burnley in January.

"I wouldn't say Foster specifically or him alone, but it's things like that [which led] to me asking for a loan. Not that you compare yourself to other people but if we can all play in the national team together, if we can all be given a space where we can play, a lot of us can end up that side [abroad]," Lepasa said.

"It's probably a year or two, realistically left for us to try and go. So, you won't get that if you just stay in the stands unfortunately."

"Like Foster, he played less [at Pirates], he was just given the opportunity to go that side and even when you're with these guys in the national team they tell you: 'go play, go find where you will play.'"

"Maybe the loan will help, but as a player in general, my goal is not to play in the PSL for the rest of my life. If there's a chance, it doesin't matter where and if's a bit better than here [the PSL] then why not.

"Football only changes your life if you're on the field, not in the stands, not on the bench, not in a big team. It doesn't matter where you play, as long as you do well."

Since his arrival, Lepasa has made four appearances for Matsatsantsa.

"For me, the important thing is just to focus here [at SuperSport] and work hard," the striker added.
