Former Bafana star: I couldn’t work with Hunt

In this edition of Negotiating Behind The Scenes, KickOff catches up with former Bafana Bafana defender Nasief Morris.

Morris, who had a successful football career turning out for the likes of Santos FC, SuperSport United and Greek giants Panathinaikos, reveals how top coach Gavin Hunt made him regret joining Matsatsantsa on his return from abroad in 2011.

Who you signed for?

"When I signed for SuperSport United, I wanted to come to Santos, but I couldn't get what I was looking for.

"There was no interest from the Big Three. I wanted to stay in Cape Town, but I couldn't get a team in Cape Town, so I went to SuperSport United. Gavin Hunt wanted me there.

"I wouldn't say Santos couldn't afford me, but I'd say the negotiations didn't go the way I wanted."

How did you find out SuperSport were interested?

"I was approached. Obviously, Gavin Hunt organized the deal for me."

Where did you meet?

"We went to the club's office and I signed a deal there."

Who was there?

"Jose Ferreira."

What surprised you?

"Not much, just Jose saying at least this would make Gavin Hunt stop asking him to finish the deal with me. Gavin wanted me there."

Did you get what you wanted?

"Ja, I was happy with the deal."

Did you see out the deal?

"No, I didn't see it out. I just stayed for six months and then I left. I couldn't work with Gavin.

"Yes, he was interested in the beginning. He wanted me there, but after that, he was completely different.

"He was saying I'm unfit and all this bulls**t."

What you would change?

"I would rather go somewhere else. I regret making the move to SuperSport United because that kinda killed everything for me.

"The same thing happened with Steven Pienaar. When Pienaar came back he went to Bidvest Wits, Gavin was there, and Steven retired after six months."
