Hunt: 'SuperSport were better, but you've got to score'

Gavin Hunt believes SuperSport United were the better team in their 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday evening.

The three-time league champions went down to Neo Maema's effort on the cusp of the first half and now have the runaway league leaders 14 points clear at the top of the standings.

Hunt was left frustrated given the amount of chances that came their way and how his charges failed to put any of them away.

"Ja, what you gotta say. I thought we were the better team…created the most chances, but you got to score against a team like this," Hunt told SuperSport TV.

"We came here with a real patch up team, you know a lot of players out…seven players out from the starting eleven and I got to comment the players.

"You know, we kept going, kept going. Ja , you got to put the ball in the net and obviously they got a very lucky goal that tackled and bounced and it fell to the player so a bit unfortunate.

"But all in all, I thought we created the better chances. They can have the ball of course…complaining about it all day. We good, I can't complain the players were unbelievable," he added.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach showered praise on his playing personnel for how they carried themselves out on the field of play despite the defeat.

"They changed the way they play a little bit over the last couple of weeks and I thought we got what we got and we're thin...let's just go with what we good at and what we know and I thought it was good.

"Thapelo (Maseko) should've scored, the youngster the first five minutes he went through with the keeper and doesn't score and obviously things happen and very unfortunate.

"But I commend the players, they were magnificent. That's what we got here, we got a good bunch. They work hard, they honest and all I can ask of them is to be honest with me and honest with the game.

"I always say the game will reward you, when you are honest with the game of football it will reward you. When you cheated the game, it will catch you and we know what happens in football.

"But I believe that we were good and you know we just got to commend them. You know, they how many points clear now, they should be able to do it quite easily now," Hunt said.
