Hunt admits letting Maseko go was 'tough'

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt concedes allowing Thapelo Maseko to leave the club after one season was difficult as the offer was hard to turn down.

Maseko has joined the DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns for an undisclosed transfer fee following a breakout campaign in the top-flight.

"It was a tough one to let Thapelo Maseko go, but you have to take a lot of things into account.

Financially he is now set for life, and we've won the league already. So, it was hard to turn down the offer," Hunt told GameOn on Radio2000.

The winger was instrumental in the club's top-three finish last season and was once touted for a move abroad as Belgian side KV Westerlo came calling, but nothing materialised.

With regards to more signings, Hunt hasn't shut the door and believes there are still a few positions that need strengthening.

"We're short of one or two areas, and we have got a few versatile players, and we tried in pre-season, which I've done, and you try and then look at them.

"As I said, you got to keep the same intensity. You have got to keep the same structure, and obviously, the quality of the player differs at different levels. The one player comes in from a different level, and he gives you something different, and obviously, we need to find out," Hunt said.

Matsatsantsa got their campaign off on a positive start in their opening DStv Premiership clash with a 2-0 win over Richards Bay FC on Saturday.
