Mashego believes only Sundowns standing in Hunt's way

Former SuperSport United striker Katlego Mashego believes only defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns are standing in Gavin Hunt's side's way to the 2022/23 DStv Premiership title.

United are currently third on the table just two points behind leaders Sundowns.

"Gavin Hunt coached me at SuperSport," Mashego tells KickOff.

"Gavin Hunt has always been one of the best coaches in the country.

"You can't write off a coach of his calibre, people might have written him off after his stint with Chiefs.

"But remember he couldn't sign players at Chiefs due to the FIFA transfer ban. I bet that's what hurt his stay at the club, a lot because Gavin is the type of coach that wants his players.

"So, I think at SuperSport they found for him the type of players he prefers.

"What happened at Chiefs and Chippa United doesn't define him. Gavin Hunt is a good coach.

"Gavin Hunt has always competed for silverware, so it's no surprise to see SuperSport United where they are now.

"And we should be careful because SuperSport where they are right now, they are not far off from Sundowns.

"Gavin Hunt, he knows this game and he can pull off a big surprise you know.

"It's just that they are competing with a Sundowns team that is a bit stronger.

"But as for the other teams, I don't see them as a potential threat to SuperSport because of consistency.

"But still, it's possible for SuperSport to sneak in and win the league."
