Resurgent Hunt drags SuperSport firmly into title contention

Experienced head coach Gavin Hunt looks to have rediscovered his managerial mojo by guiding SuperSport United firmly into title contention with a 3-1 win over Sekhukhune United.

Hunt's side moved into an impressive third position - just two points off leaders Mamelodi Sundowns - in the DStv Premiership standings with a morale-boosting win that has solidified Matsatsantsa as early title contenders.

Goals by Bradley Grobler, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Thamsanqa Gabuza ensured SuperSport secured their fifth win in their last six encounters.

"I thought the first-half we were very, very good, Hunt told SuperSport TV post-match.

"We created numerous opportunities and the movement and synchronisation was there which was good which is what we work on the training ground.

"I knew the second half they [Sekhukhune] were going to come, but the wnid was quite diffucult where you may not be able to see it but it was quite swirly so it was quite difficult.

"The pitch was also quite hard so it looked a bit ugly especially in the second half but all in all it's good especially coming off playing two days go.

"We wanted to keep a bit of momentum and now we've got another two week break which doesn't help.

"But I commend the players and we'll keep going."

SuperSport next face a trip to Stellenbosch in a DStv Premiership clash on 18 October.

Kick-off is at 17:00.
