‘Most bizarre league I have ever seen’

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has chosen not to hide his feelings about the order of events to the start of this season.

Almost four months since they returned from pre-season, SuperSport have only played five games, the first of which was on August 3 and the most recent on September 28.

The side get to play their third competition of the season on Saturday against Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Knockout, three weeks since their last match, which was an away trip to Cape Town City.

"We haven't played for a couple of weeks, and I think in my 45 years in South African football, this is the most bizarre league I have ever seen in my life," says Hunt.

"We started (pre-season) in June and have played four or five games.

"So, we haven't played any football, there is no continuity in games.

"We should have played many league games, which were put off, and I think it benefitted the teams in Africa and the cups (MTN8).

"For other teams, it certainly hasn't been.

"So, it is very difficult to find out where you are after four (league) games.

"There has been no continuity in games, and we haven't played now for two to three weeks, then you start again with a cup game, so you don't really know where you are.

"With our situation, it is difficult," says Hunt.

Matsatsantsa will be the hosts against Chiefs on Saturday (20:00) in the first round of the Carling Knockout.
