Hunt's frustration: It was Tito & Maseko, now Campbell

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has revealed that he was the only individual unhappy about Shandre Campbell's transfer to Club Brugge.

Campbell completed a move to Brugge early this month, where he is set to be initiated into European football via the club's reserve side NXT, which campaigns in the Belgian Challenger Pro.

The 19-year-old had a rapid rise in the Premiership, as he earned his move to Europe after just one season following his promotion from the Diski Challenge side.

Matsatsantsa have been losing their quality players with far much regularity in recent seasons than in any other era in their history.

A season prior, United also bid Thapelo Maseko farewell after a maiden campaign in the topflight, as he signed by Mamelodi Sundowns.

SuperSport also transferred Patrick Maswanganyi to Orlando Pirates ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, following one good season with the Tshwane side.

Hunt has revealed that such transfers, which destabilizes the team, have left him "frustrated".

"For the good of the boy [Campbell] and the club, it's fantastic, but obviously for me it's very frustrating because you do so much work, you can see it coming, we're gonna benefit and then he moves on," Hunt said on 947's MSW.

"A year before... I've only been back here for a few years, we had Thapelo Maseko, great season, I know the next season he's gonna be good for us, [then] he moves on. 'Tito' [Maswanganyi] at Pirates, same thing. He comes into the fold and then he's gone.

"So, that's been the frustrating for me and the players. The players that stay say: 'But coach, are we ambitious or what?' Now you've got answer questions. I always remember players overseas, they don't want to sign contracts, they ask: 'Coach, who's coming in?'," the multiple league title-winning mentor added.

Kegan Johannes is the latest promising young player to leave Matsatsantsa, having transferred to Sundowns recently.

United have bolstered their squad with the acquisition of Pogiso Sanoka, Vincent Pule and Nyiko Mobbie.
