SuperSport make decision on goalkeeper

SuperSport United have finally made their decision regarding the future of one of their goalkeepers following weeks of waiting after his contract had ended on June 30.

Matsatsantsa have decided not to renew the contract of former Zimbabwean international Washington Arubi.

The 2021/22 season Nedbank Cup winner turn 39 years old next month.

Arubi had a fine season at former club Marumo Gallants, enjoying a fairy-tale run in the CAF Confederation Cup two seasons ago.

That was followed by a not-so-memorable return to SuperSport in 2023, making only seven appearances in all competitions.

"I'm no longer there at SuperSport United. I stopped being with the team when they went to Botswana," Arubi informs KickOff.

"I'm still gonna continue playing. My body is still there, and I do take care of myself. Taking care of yourself, like training more, resting, and recovering, will keep you in the game for longer.

"Playing up until this age requires you to listen to your body and take care of yourself, control what you eat, control what you drink.

"It's difficult to shed weight when you've grown old, but when you are slim, nothing will stop you from keeping on playing. However, when you weigh big, it's a bit difficult," he continues.

Arubi emphasises that in order to be a good example to the youngsters, you need to show it by taking care of your body, or else you run the risk of breaking down along the way.

"I can tell by the exercises we do at training that I'm always on top. That alone shows I've been looking after myself.

"I'm not gonna put myself under pressure and predict how many years I'm left with in football; I'm just gonna go with the flow and keep doing what has been working for me.

"I once went through the situation I'm currently experiencing, and I had to look for a team. I managed to bounce back even to my national team.

"But I trust I will bounce back."
