SuperSport now targeting ex-TP Mazembe man

After signing Pogiso Sanoka, SuperSport United now have their eyes fixed on a Zambian defender with CAF Champions League experience to reinforce their defence for this coming season.

SuperSport have completed the signing of Sanoka, with the former TS Galaxy man having agreed on a three-year deal with the Tshwane-based outfit over the weekend.

The 32-year-old defender has joined Keagan Dolly among new faces set to be officially unveiled by Matsatsantsa a Pitori this week.

The Gavin Hunt-led side have already parted ways with Siyanda Xulu and Keegan Allan to create space for the arrival of Sanoka and Mwape in the team, all of this in preparations for the 2024/25 campaign.

According to a source close to SuperSport, Tandi Mwape has already started training with the club with the possibility of playing his football in the PSL next season.

"It's now a done deal for Sanoka after the player and SuperSport agreed on the personal terms at the weekend. He has signed a two-year deal plus one year option.

"The club is currently assessing a Zambian defender with a view of signing him," said the source.

The towering centre-back has been on the books of ZESCO United back in his home country, while he has also been on the books of DR Congo giants TP Mazembe, meaning he comes with some CAF Champions League experience, where he has 17 appearances in total across four seasons.

Mwape, however, was not in the matchday squad for all Mazembe's group stage matches last season, thus missing the opportunity to face up against SuperSport's rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. But he did play the home and away second round matches against AmaZulu FC back in 2021/22, which ended 0-0 in South Africa and 1-1 in the DRC.

He is set to turn 28 on July 20.

Meanwhile, Ugandan defender Brian Onyango is also currently training with SuperSport with the hope of securing a contract with the club.

Onyango is a free agent after Mamelodi Sundowns decided against renewing his deal.
