SuperSport make Motupa decision

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed that his club won't be signing striker Gift Motupa this season.

Motupa has been training with SuperSport for the past few weeks after being released by Mamelodi Sundowns last month. The Limpopo-born striker has been training with Matsatsantsa with the hope of bouncing back and rekindling the same form enjoyed whilst still at both Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits.

Motupa's career at Sundowns has been highlighted by injury which saw him only make 14 appearances in the club colours since joining the Brazilians in 2020 from Bidvest Wits.

Hunt, speaking after the Nedbank Cup against Cape Town City, cited financial constraints as one of the reasons behind his team's failure to sign Motupa this season.

"He only asked to come and train with us. He wants to keep fit. We can't sign him this season due to financial issues," Hunt said to the media after his side's victory.

Motupa has played for Baroka and Chippa United among other teams in South Africa. He made only 12 appearances for Bafana Bafana where he scored only five goals in his career with the national team.

Meanwhile, another former Sundowns forward Erwin Saavedra has rejoined his former club Bolivar La Paz in Bolivia after leaving the Brazilians in January this year.
