Thuso Phala: I'm now a bakkie driver

In this edition of Where Are They Now former Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Supersport United star Thuso Phala reveal the type of job he is doing lately to put food on the table.

'Phalaza' as he is known in football circles, sounds very excited each time he mentions his new line of work.

"I'm working with my old lady, we are in this PIKITUP business," Phala tells KickOff.

"I'm driving a bakkie. I collect and deliver workers to their different sites that's all."

Phala says what he is doing now is nowhere to what he is used to.

"Here I work the whole day whereas in football it was just two hours then I'm done [laughs].

"But now here you manage people, you check who reported for duty and who didn't...eish it's a lot of stuff.

"I'm still getting used to waking up this early though.

"My Day Stars at 6 a.m, meaning I wake up as early as 5 a.m. now, I will work until 5 p.m, I'm a five to five person now, it's Monday to Friday.

"The company is based in West Rand, after knocking off from work now I go straight to bed instead of going straight to Malls [laughs].

"People still do recognise me and they understand life still has to go on after football.

"If you have pride issues then that's your problem.

"You bump into a fan in a robot, you driving a bakkie full of employees at the back, they ask themselves what's happening now? You tell them it's work, it's life.

"So you put your pride aside and be a normal person, treat people as your colleague, accept you are done with football, life goes on."
