Why Chiefs bound defender is not being ‘banished’…

Kaizer Chiefs bound defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe will not have restrictions at SuperSport United for the remainder of his contract.

Ditlhokwe signed a pre-contract with Chiefs in January which then comes into effect in July after turning down an extension with his current employers.

With the option of heading out to Chiefs now out following the close of the January transfer window the Botswana international has to stay on with Matsatsantsa until the end of June.

While local clubs are notorious for frustrating players in the same boat by not fielding them Ditlhokwe will still be competition for his place as was evidence when he was used against Swallows in the last after missing three matches.

"We are very proud with how we have worked with TT," says Stan Matthews, the SuperSport CEO.

"The human being that he is, fantastic young man.

"A great leader, a captain of his national team, a humble young man, and somebody that we are very happy with what he has done for us at the club.

"And this is why even after he has signed his pre-contract for which I kind of already knew in November last year that he wasn't going to stay with us.

"I could tell from the negotiations and the way it was going that they were already thinking of going elsewhere but I didn't have any hesitations.

"I will see out the season with TT because he has a great character, and he will give me a 1000% right to his last day.

"He has done that for me since he joined the football club.

"I can't complain about a player leaving me on a pre-contract when I have signed over 200 players at the football club over the years.

"If you live by the sword then you got to know that one day you will get the sword.

"It doesn't affect me in any way and I'm tremendously happy that he could go and make that kind of money at Kaizer Chiefs.

"Hats off to him.

"He deserves it.

"His family deserves it and as I have said all the time if you get to a point where your wages are too big for the club, we are happy for you to go on as long as you give the club the effort.

"Now he will be in the front covers of magazines and get all the limelight because he belongs to Kaizer Chiefs.

"Wonderful for him. Isn't that what footballers dream about and what it should be?

"I'm not discouraged by all of that," says Matthews.

Ditlhokwe has been with SuperSport since January 2020 after joining from Township Rollers.
