CONFIRMED: Moroka Swallows sold!

Following much speculation in recent weeks, the sale of Moroka Swallows to Marumo Gallants chairman Abram Sello has gone through, having now received the approval of the Premier Soccer League.

The Dube Birds have run financial struggles in recent times, even having to fail to turn up for matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows last December, after the player took part in what the club described as an illegal strike.

In the aftermath of those events, the Soweto outfit let go of as much as 22 players, although some made their way back after negotiations and the smoking of the peace pipe.

But it was always inevitable that sooner or later, Swallows would exchange hands, and now it will be in the hands of new management, and possibly under a name next season.

The news was confirmed on Thursday afternoon, with Gallants releasing an official statement.

"Following the final approval of the Premier Soccer League, (PSL) today, Marumo Gallants Football Club officially confirms the acquisition of Moroka Swallows Football Club. Gallants will take over Swallows with immediate effect. The club also confirms that home games for the upcoming season will be played in Bloemfontein, Free State," read the statement.

"Gallants will provide more details of plans once staff, technical teams and players have been addressed. At this stage the club will not be issuing further comments or taking interviews – a date will be communicated for a press briefing that will take place shortly," it added.

The club affectionately known as Bahlabane Ba Ntwa is making a comeback to topflight football having been relegated at the end of the 2022/23 season.

This, after Sello had bought the status of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in February of 2021, later changing name to Marumo Gallants.
