Swallows sink Royal AM to ease relegation fears

Swallows FC moved off the bottom of the DStv Premiership table with a 2-0 win over Royal AM on Wednesday evening.

After a man of the match performance against TS Galaxy, the Dube Birds were without goalkeeper Sanele Tshabalala and restored Thakasani Mbanjwa as Royal AM handed Sedwyn George a rare league start.

It was a purposeful opening from in particular the visiting outfit and called the opposite number to action from decent bit of play in the final third of the pitch.

Swallows began to show up after the uncharacteristic start and threatened the breakthrough when Tshediso Patjie's flying shot shaved narrowly beyond target.

The match was then temporarily suspended following a power cut at the venue, but the issue was dealt with and thus the clash continued.

Swallows continued to find the bright openings after the brief stoppage and closed-in again when Darrel Matsheke's rasping shot forced AM goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo to concede a corner-kick.

Thwihli Thwahla trailed ten minutes before halftime after a loose pass saw Waseem Isaacs collect and released Gregory Damons in space and the full-back made no mistake with a smart finish past Ngcobo.

With Ruzaigh Gamildien introduced for AM against his former club, the Dube Birds grabbed a second as an unmarked Musonda arrived in the area to side-foot home a cross from the left.

Royal AM looked to the bench in the hope of a comeback and a trio of changes in Thabo Matlaba, Mxolisi Macuphu and Mfundo Thikazi came on.

The Dube Birds contained the closing exchanges comfortably well as Royal AM piled on the pressure and 2-0 it finished in Dobsonville.
