My Welcome to the League Moment: Patrick Ningiza

In our exciting feature, My Welcome to the League Moment, KickOff catches up with former Moroka Swallows dangerman Patrick Ningiza.

Ningiza reveals how a former Orlando Pirates defender-cum-midfielder Warren Lewis made him not enjoy matches against the Soweto giants.

"I still remember the Swallows versus Pirates fixture, at FNB Stadium," Ningiza tells KickOff.

"Warren Lewis was playing for Pirates for that day, and I was so scared of him yoh! (laughs).

"The way that guy used to kick opponents made my skin crawl (laughs).

"Every time he was not in the Pirates team I scored against them, but when Lewis was in the team, I could not play my normal game.

"I was still a young boy then, and Lewis didn't care about that he kicked everything.

"Remember, before that game I only used to see him on TV.

"So, when I had to face him in that match, I was so scared I kept asking myself, how am I going to deal with this? I'm only used to seeing this guy kicking opponents on TV (laughs).

"The way I was so scared I did not even consider dribbling him, that would have been like opening a can of worms, that would have been like giving him a reason to kick me.

"I thought it was better if I played the ball to my teammate earlier before he got to me (laughs).

"The way I was so afraid of him he was voted man of the match in that game.

"He was not talking that guy, the whole game he did his business quietly.

"That guy stuck to me like glue, even when his teammates had the ball, he didn't bother to ask for a pass he was just following me around.

"Pirates beat us 1-0 in that match."
