Former Polokwane City shot-stopper Modiri Marumo launches own brand of goalkeeper gloves

A former Premier Soccer League player has launched his own brand of goalkeeper gloves.

Former Botswana international goalkeeper Modiri Marumo, who played for Polokwane City, has become the first athlete in the country to have his own brand of football equipment, realising a dream of his. He is delighted to have launched the Marumo brand of gloves, but admits he almost gave up on his dream.

"I had sought help from people who manufactured sports equipment while I was still in South Africa goalkeeper coaching Polokwane City but they refused to aid me in manufacturing my own. They only wanted me to be their ambassador in Botswana but that was not what I wanted and I nearly gave up," he is quoted as saying by Killerpassbw.com.

During last year's COSAFA senior men challenge, Zimbabwean goalkeeper George Chikova, whom I coached at Polokwane City, and his country used the same hotel as us and he had gloves specifically tailored for him to use at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) this year and that is when I seized the opportunity to establish my dream."
