Orlando Pirates honoured with Letterman jacket patch

Adidas this week unveiled the VRCT jacket, a contemporary take on the classic letterman jacket made famous by American college students, and Orlando Pirates fans will be able to personalise their jackets with a specially-created patch which honours the club's first badge from 1937.

Every jacket features a classic adidas 'A' team patch, which wearers can interchange to personalise their letterman with their own customised patch that represents them and shows the world who they are.

For example, Juventus football player Paulo Dybala chose the word SACRIFICE, to pay homage to the efforts made by him and his family to achieve his career goals.

The Orlando Pirates patch recalls the club's humble beginnings as a township boys' boxing and recreation club in 1937, which had the letter 'P' emblazoned on the first soccer kit they used. The widely-recognised skull and crossbones sign only came some years later, after Rankus Mapgisa's vision to commercialise the brand in the 1950s.

"There's nothing greater than aligning to an ideal. The ideals of this Club are expressed throughout its history, which is represented, Once Always, by its badge," said Tokoloho Moeketsi, Orlando Pirates Brand Activation Manager.

Designed to be worn before and after training, VRCT reworks an iconic design for a classic bomber aesthetic with a sleek, modern fit. Featuring flexible, lightweight material, the jacket offers maximum freedom of movement, while a soft double-knit fabric enables year-round wearability.
