Black Leopards shake up Joel Masutha-led technical team

According to a source, the arrival of the technical director is causing some unease among the existing backroom staff who are no longer sure of their roles in the team.

Coach Joel Masutha steered the club to the Absa Premiership by winning the promotional play-offs, which have come under scrutiny following Ajax Cape Town's court victory in the 'Ndorogate' saga.

"They are bringing in a white coach but they say he is a technical director. But everyone there knows he is actually a coach," the source told snl24.com/kickoff.

"He is from Italy, but how can a technical director come with a fitness coach? Why is he bringing in his own man? Isn't he there to oversee things? Only a coach can bring in his own technical team members and Leopards doesn't have a fitness trainer problem. They had someone, a lady, she is very, very good, excellent, so what do they mean by hiring this guy?

"But the club management has assured Masutha that he is still a coach, but also made it clear that sometimes this new guy will take over the training sessions. And maybe Masutha takes charge of other players, and the technical director will train some, and they will share the ground and so on.

"He is here, he arrived on Monday. I think they are just waiting for Masutha to draw one game then replace him."

Asked if there was indeed a technical director that was going to be unveiled today, Leopards manager Tshifiwa Thidiela said: "There's a press conference at 1pm, why don't you come there?"

Leopards recently recruited Lefa Hlongwane from Jomo Cosmos, Kabinga Lesedi and Themba Ndlovu from Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, ex-Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Chris Matombo and winger Khethukuthula Zwane from Witbank Spurs.
