Motaung, who expects to make the appointment of a “top coach” this week, says Amakhosi were close to signing a tactician who was then prised away from them with a “private jet”.
One of the coaches who were linked with Amakhosi is Frenchman Patrice Carteron, who joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly. Carteron, in fact, revealed to the Al Ahly website that he had been approached by Chiefs.
Amakhosi started pre-season training on Monday with caretaker coach Patrick Mabedi.
One thing’s for sure, Chiefs are going to appoint a foreign coach.
“The coach search is difficult. The type of coaches we are looking for are not easy to find. Actually we’ve had three coaches snapped from our fingers by big sharks out there,” Motaung said.
“It’s not an easy process because you need to make sure you get the right person who can take this club to another level. After the three years [without a trophy], we understand the anxiety and energy our supporters have and the pressure we are under to achieve. We want someone who will hit the ground running. We have a top coach coming. Hopefully it will happen this week or next week.”
