Baxter was a huge success during the three seasons he spent with Amakhosi, winning two Absa Premiership titles, as well as the Nedbank Cup and MTN8.
Now in charge of the senior national team, Baxter is said to be the man Amakhosi are looking to bring in to get back to their days of winning trophies.
Motaung, however, was quick to point out that Baxter still has a contract with SAFA, who have since made a statement about the reports.
“I think he is still contracted, isn’t it? It’s good that we are linked to top coaches, he is also one of the top coaches. He was with us and we know his value and his quality,” Motaung said.
“He is a high-profile coach, so he falls within the category. I love the assumptions, because people lead us to good things. For us we are looking for a coach who will take this club and hit the ground running. I won’t mention names of candidates. I don’t like mentioning names until I have signed with somebody. Nothing has been signed with anybody, but we have a top coach coming.”
Bafana will be involved in 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September and it will be interesting to see if they would be willing to let go of Baxter.
