Highlands Park coach Owen da Gama has loads of respect for Lebohang Mokoena

Mokoena started training with the promoted outfit on Monday with the hope of getting himself a deal in the topflight. He last played for Ajax Cape Town in 2016/17 and spent the whole of last season without a club.

Mokoena worked with Da Gama at Pirates, so they know each other very well. Da Gama says he holds the player in high regard.

“We want to see how 'Cheeseboy' can fit into our plans and for him to look at what we are about,” Da Gama tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“I’ve got high regard for him and I mean the boy looks as sharp as ever. He’s just been unfortunate with injuries, but the same thing happened to Simba Marumo when we were at Platinum Stars. We fixed up Marumo, nobody wanted to touch Simba Marumo. He scored a hat-trick in the final [2006 Telkom Knockout].

“I always try help a player wherever I can, especially if they are talented. I am not saying I am going to sign Cheeseboy, but there’s always that possibility.”

Da Gama adds: “He is looking very well hey. He is not a boy who picks up weight. He is highly intelligent, I don’t care what anybody says. Obviously a proper assessment will be made.”
