Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo could be deemed surplus to requirements at Baroka FC

Khumalo joined Bakgaga last season and was widely praised for the team’s performances in the first half of the season. He worked closely with coaches Kgoloko Thobejane and MacDonald Makhubedu, before he was asked to take charge of the last two matches of the Absa Premiership season.

Now, following the appointment of Zambian coach Nyirenda, who was unveiled last Friday, it’s unclear if Khumalo will stay on at the club.

Nyirenda will be assisted by Fani Mthethwa and the goalkeeper coach will be Thomas 'Spaghetti' Mare.

Described as a “big fish” by CEO Morgan Mammila when they managed to appoint him as technical director, Khumalo’s future is now up in the air.

“Where he [Nyirena] comes from, there was no technical director, so we are still discussing the technical director’s future,” Mphahlele says.

There are a lot of changes happening at Baroka, who signed 10 players and have released six. A few more announcements will be made by the club before the start of the new season.
