Kaizer Chiefs want a coach who has continental experience

The Amakhosi fans have been made to wait for an announcement of a new coach for months now and with just a few weeks left to the start of the new campaign, the club should be wrapping up the appointment as soon as possible, so that the new man can work with his players during pre-season.

The Soweto giants are said to be talking to Stuart Baxter, a man who knows what it takes to win titles with the club, having previously won two league crowns, the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8 with Chiefs from 2012 to 2015.

Baxter has experience of coaching on the continent, though it has not brought him tangible success.

He played a role in SuperSport United’s journey to the CAF Confederation Cup final and inspired Bafana Bafana to their first ever victory over Nigeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifiers, but he failed to qualify for the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Two embarrassing defeats to Cape Verde had many questioning if he is indeed the right man to lead the national team to a new level.

Asked what they are looking for in a coach, Motaung said: “A coach that will be a father figure to the team, a coach that will have an understanding of the league challenges and a high-profile coach with a pedigree. Someone very experienced who will take this team to another level. Continental experience and obviously with a great sense of humour too.”
