Maccabi FC coach Mokete Tsotetsi values former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Collins Mbesuma

Gauteng based Maccabi won promotion to the second tier of South African football via the ABC Motsepe League play-offs last week and will be joined in the First Division by TS Sporting from Mpumalanga.

The 33-year-old Mbesuma, who last played in the PSL for Highlands Park in 2016/17, joined Maccabi in January and helped them win promotion when he scored one of the goals in a victory over Dolphins FC from Limpopo. Tsotetsi, a former Chiefs player as well, wants Mbesuma to form part of his squad next season.

“He played a role. He was with Highlands and he got an operation, which kept him out for some time,” Tsotetsi tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“I was a footballer and sometimes when you reach a certain age, we don’t regard you as someone who can play anymore. [But] I know what he can do, he is an experienced player. He was eager to play as well, he is fit and the results are coming.

“We signed him in January but he did not play much because of his work permit. We definitely want to hold on to him for next season.”

Tsotetsi adds: “I will keep the team and just add a few experienced players.”
