At the time Sirino was unveiled by Sundowns at a press conference at Chloorkop, he was flanked by Jeremy Brockie and Aubrey Ngoma, two attacking players who many had given more attention to.
Little did we know that the man holding the number 26 jersey would actually be the one to shine for the club as Sundowns lifted their eighth PSL crown.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane travelled to Bolivia to watch the player in action and was convinced that he would fit in at Chloorkop.
Often it takes foreign players, especially those who are not from Africa, time to adjust to life in the PSL, but Sirino hit the ground running, despite the fact that he speaks very little English, which makes communication on the pitch hard sometimes.
He’s got a good first touch and an eye for a defence-splitting pass, but he has only found the back of the net once, which is not enough for a player who gets into good scoring positions. He has struck the woodwork on a number of occasions and will be hoping to bang in the goals regularly next term.
Sundowns legend Roger Feutmba has been impressed with Sirino and believes there’s a lot more to come from the Uruguayan.
“I watched Sirino playing and I think he is a good player. He has managed to fit in well into that Sundowns team. For me it was a good idea to bring him in. He’s great value for Sundowns,” Feutmba tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“I think we’ll see more of him [next season]. He can still give much more. The most important thing is that he fits in well in the first season and then he gets more confidence going forward.
“He has to believe in himself [in front of goal]. He makes good runs and he gets into the space.”
