Makgalwa joined Maritzburg on loan at the start of the season but snl24.com/kickoff reported on Saturday that the 22-year-old was back in Gauteng after being released by the Team of Choice.
Chairman Farook Kadodia has now confirmed the news.
"He's a very good player but unfortunately he was not in our plans anymore," Kadodia said.
Makgalwa played 19 matches Maritzburg in all competitions but the midfielder saw less action when Muhsin Ertugral took over from Fadlu Davids late in December.
Kadodia also requested that KwaZulu-Natal football supporters come in their numbers to fill up Harry Gwala Stadium when they host Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday night.
"We call on our province to come in their numbers to show support to the club as they are playing a very tough game," he added.
Maritzburg will be looking for three points as they are fighting to get out of the relegation zone after they lost to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
