New Baroka FC coach Wedson Nyirenda wants Bakgaga to have a championship mindset

Nyirenda stepped down as Zambia’s national team coach recently as reports about joining Baroka started to intensify. He was unveiled by the club this afternoon alongside 10 new signings, as Baroka look to improve on last season’s 14th place finish.

Nyirenda won league titles with both Zesco and Zanaco.

“They really convinced me with the way they live their life here. When we were speaking I just had this soft spot for the team. It was not so difficult,” Nyirenda said.

“It feels great. I am so excited. I looked forward to this day when I will be back in Mzansi. I thank Baroka FC for giving me this opportunity. Together we are going to achieve greater things.

“Anything can happen. From my past experience, I went to teams which have not been rated in anyway, teams like Zesco United. I went to that team when in the previous season they were relegated. I revamped the team into a championship team. In my first season we won the league and we won four cups. In the second season we won the league and cups.

He continued: “In the third year I went to Zanaco and we won the league and one cup and the other one we lost in the final. I have come here with the same spirit and I think we a replicate that if we work together. Nothing will be impossible.

“We need to change the mindset and have a championship character.”
