Orlando Pirates release defender Marc van Heerden

The Buccaneers have parted ways with left-back Marc van Heerden by mutual agreement, the club announced on Monday.

The 30-year-old spent just 18 months at the club, after arriving from Chippa United in January last year, and managed 21 appearances during his stay.

The former AmaZulu fullback's departure is perhaps brought on by Pirates' recent signing of Paseka Mako from the Chilli Boys, while Innocent Maela held onto the left-back position last season.

The club also still have Phetso Maphanga and Thabo Matlaba who can play on the left side of defence.

Coach Micho Sredojevic and the Bucs technical team are expected to release a few more men before the season kicks off in August, having recently recruited nine players.
