Eagles initially deemed Zongo surplus to requirements last month, along with ex-Mamelodi Sundowns striker Mame Niang, Joshua Sauls and Boikanyo Komane.
Zongo, whose career has been dogged by off-field issues, only played five games in his third stint with the club last term, registering one assist.
However, Eagles co-chairperson Shawn Mpisane says he wants to help the 28-year-old deliver on his much-vaunted potential.
"It is just that I don't believe in giving up on people. I believe Zongo needs help," Mpisane tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"And I'm not going to throw him out. I've got a son and I think I need to help him.
"We can't take away the fact that he's talented. For me I think some people come to you for a reason. Some people they get to be how they are because they are failing to get love."
